COBOURG AREA BUSINESSES BETTER PREPARED TO SURVIVE DISASTERS THANKS TO BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING SEMINARS PRESENTED BY VANGUARD EMC
Cobourg area businesses benefit from seminars presented by industry specialist Brian Miller, CBCP

February 17, 2007 -- Cobourg ~ Brian Miller, President of Vanguard EMC Inc. was pleased to present Business Continuity Planning (BCP) concepts for the Cobourg and District Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with their emergency preparedness program. The sessions were free of charge and open to all businesses as well as Chamber of Commerce members. The presentation held on April 4th was designed specifically for small to medium sized businesses, and the breakfast session on April 5th addressed the specific needs of larger enterprises.

"Business Continuity Planning and Emergency Management Training are extremely important for businesses of all sizes" said Kim Rudd, President of the Cobourg & District Chamber of Commerce. "We were very pleased to have hosted a speaker of Brian's calibre addressing this issue. The participants have definitely gained a competitive advantage thanks to Vanguard's comprehensive overview.”

Vanguard EMC also presented BCP concepts and methodologies to the Senior Management Team of the Town of Cobourg, as requested by the town’s Emergency Planner, Leanne Latter.

"The Town of Cobourg was thrilled to have Brian Miller of Vanguard EMC Inc. speak to our local businesses and industries about the importance of business continuity planning. Even the Town's senior managers had the opportunity to sit in on a session geared towards business continuity planning for the public sector. For a business, a well developed plan can mean the difference between recovering from a disaster or disappearing, and personal preparedness, for both private citizens and businesses, will go a long way towards our goal of having a disaster resilient community,” said Leanne Latter, Emergency Planner.

The seminars provided participants with a broad conceptual outline of what constitutes Business Continuity Planning and were designed to assist owners and managers to decide at what level plans are needed and in what detail.

“This seminar is essential for business owners and senior managers to understand what a BCP is and why they need to ensure their plan is functional and kept up to date,” said Brian Miller, of Vanguard EMC Inc. “Too often businesses only realize the importance of the BCP or of taking the planning process seriously AFTER they suffer a crisis which affects their service delivery,” added Miller.
