Exercising the Business Continuity Plan
Course Description
A two day interactive workshop program teaching the techniques to achieve success and the processes required to design, manage, and evaluate exercises for Business Continuity, Emergency Management or Pandemic Plans. The seminar is designed to be fast paced with many opportunities for participation and discussion. Participants use the techniques learned in the first day and a half of the workshop to conduct and participate in a 1 hour tabletop exercise during the second afternoon. Seminar materials include a 3 ring binder with the presentation slides, 29 templates in both hard and soft copies consisting of 26 design and evaluation forms, a tabletop exercise development guide and 2 post-exercise report formats. All templates are non-copyright and can be used as desired by participants.

Audience
There is no prerequisite to this course. It is designed for anyone who will be involved in planning, managing or evaluating a business continuity, emergency management or pandemic exercise. The optimum class size is 8-16 participants.

Course Outline
Day 1 AM
- Welcome and intros
- Lecture and theory of exercise planning
- Small team activity to identify the assets of a fictitious company
Day 1 PM
- 2 teams established
- Each team is assigned activities relative to the design of a table top exercise
- Teams present results to full class
Day 2 AM
- Teams review previous day activities
- Short period of lecture
- Teams continue exercise development
Day 2 PM
- Final exercise development activities
- 2:15 PM: start a "Command & Control" tabletop exercise based on effort of past 1.5 days
- 3:15 PM conclude the exercise
- conduct an evaluation and de-briefing
- 4 PM Terminate the workshop
